Phone Numbers
Purchase dedicated phone numbers for your voice agents so users can call and have real-time AI conversations.
Give your voice agent a dedicated phone number. Users call the number and have a natural voice conversation with your AI — no app required, no links to share, just a phone call.
Phone numbers require a Studio Pro plan or higher and voice agents must be enabled for your account.
How It Works
- You purchase a phone number through Chipp
- The number is automatically routed to your voice agent
- Users call the number and connect directly to your AI
- The voice agent uses your app’s system prompt, knowledge base, and tools
No SIP trunk configuration, no webhook setup — it just works.
Purchasing a Phone Number

Go to your app’s Build page and open the Voice card. Voice mode must be enabled first.

Click Select Number to open the phone number search. Choose your country (US, Canada, or UK mobile / non-geographic) and optionally filter by area code or dialing code (e.g. 7700 for UK mobile).

Click Search Numbers to see available options. Select the number you want and click Save to provision it.
Your number is active immediately after purchase.

The first 3 phone numbers per organization are included in your plan. Additional numbers beyond the free allowance are billed separately.
Billing

The free allowance applies org-wide regardless of country — if you have one US number and three UK numbers, three are free and you’re billed for one UK number ($1.50/mo). UK geographic numbers (e.g. London +4420 prefix) are not currently available in self-serve — contact support if you need a geographic UK number.
Monthly phone number billing runs on the 1st of each month for the previous month’s active numbers.
Configuration
Once a number is assigned, calls are automatically routed to your voice agent with its full configuration:
- Voice selection — Stock voices, voice tiers, or cloned voices
- Custom greeting — How the agent introduces itself
- System prompt — Full personality and instructions
- Knowledge sources — Everything the agent can reference
- Tools — Custom actions and integrations available during calls
One Number Per App
Each app can have one phone number. To change numbers, release the current one and purchase a new one. Released numbers return to the available pool.

Troubleshooting
Number not receiving calls?
- Verify voice mode is enabled for the app
- Check that the number shows as active in your voice settings
- Ensure your plan supports phone numbers (Studio Pro or higher)
Callers hearing silence?
- Check your voice agent’s greeting configuration
- Verify the voice agent is properly configured with a voice selection
- Review server logs for connection errors
Want to change numbers?
- Release the current number in voice settings
- Search for and purchase a new number
- The old number returns to the available pool and may be assigned to someone else
