Watched Folders (Chipp Desktop)

Point a folder on your Mac at any of your Chipp agents and every document you drop there becomes agent knowledge automatically.

Keeping an agent’s knowledge fresh is the single biggest chore in running one. You upload ten documents at setup, the business moves on, and six months later your agent is confidently answering from last quarter.

Watched Folders removes the chore. In the Chipp desktop app, point a local folder at one of your agents. From then on, every supported document you drop into that folder syncs to the agent’s knowledge automatically, and it is available to the agent everywhere: web, mobile, Slack, WhatsApp, every channel it lives on.

Setting it up

  1. Open the Chipp desktop app and click the Chipp chip in the header.
  2. Sign in with your Chipp account if you have not already (your browser opens to approve access; there are no API keys to manage).
  3. Under Watched Folders, click Add folder.
  4. Enter the folder path (for example ~/Clients/Acme) and choose the agent it should feed.

That is it. The desktop checks the folder about once a minute. When a new or updated document appears, you will see a small notification confirming the sync.

What syncs

  • Documents: PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, XLSX, XLS
  • Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC (transcribed on ingestion)
  • Files up to 25 MB each

Updated files replace their earlier version in the agent’s knowledge, so re-saving a document keeps the agent current rather than piling up duplicates. Hidden files are never touched, and the sync only ever reads inside your home folder.

  • A consultant’s per-client deliverables folder, so each client agent always knows the latest work.
  • A founder’s board-materials folder feeding an internal Q&A agent.
  • A support lead’s policy-docs folder keeping the customer-facing agent honest after every policy change.
  • An exported-meeting-notes folder, so your agent can answer “what did we decide about pricing?”

Privacy and limits

The desktop app only reads folders you explicitly add, only inside your home directory, and uploads only the supported file types listed above. Nothing else on your machine is scanned. Syncs use the same authenticated connection as your Chipp session, and you can stop watching a folder at any time from the same panel.
