This week, we're asking the big question: is AI really a bubble?
Spoiler alert—we say no.
We also explore why AI investment is different from the dot-com era, see how tech workers are leading AI adoption, and discover why even a "bubble" might help us build the future faster.
Plus, learn how to bring data from any source into your Chipp assistants, trigger emails automatically from conversations, and build multi-agent systems.
Catch up on last week's Vibecoding workshop and AI for Non-Profits session, and join us in South Carolina for Chipp Con!
AI Highlights from Around the Web
AI's Unexpected Economic Role
Deutsche Bank warns that the AI bubble might be the only thing holding the US economy together. A surprising turn of events considering how much doubt surrounded AI's economic impact.

🌶️ Massive spend on AI infrastructure, and data centers in particular, are huge economic drivers, but they are masking weakness in other areas of the economy. Expect tech to continue to drive growth.
The AI Slowdown That Wasn't
Ethan Mollick shares data showing that predictions of an "AI adoption downturn" were wrong. Businesses are finding AI useful, and adoption continues to grow. Check out the thread.

🌶️ It takes way longer than I expected for adoption! Doomers on tech Twitter are not talkign to accountants or designers who are just now adopting these powerful tools. Expect actual usage to trail the discourse for years to come.
Who's Really Using AI?
Packy McCormick highlights a Yale study revealing that computer professionals are using AI way more than any other profession. The data shows AI isn't taking jobs, but it's changing how we work.

🌶️ This survey focused on Claude users, who are already a specific technical segment. Be that as it may, AI is spiky. Certain jobs are adopting more quickly than others. Not surprisingly, AI is built by coders so it gets really good at coding. As more applications are built, watch as AI gets better as domain specific tasks.
Bears Are Wrong About the AI Bubble
Steven Fiorillo makes a strong case that there's no AI bubble. Unlike the dot-com era, today's AI investments are backed by profitable tech giants with strong balance sheets funding growth organically.

🌶️ The bottom line is there is no shortage of demand versus what we saw in 1999. The potential risk is timing: will power and infrastructure come online soon enough to generate revenue? I expect there to be roadkill but also see the demand continuing to increase even as we build and improve our infrastructure.
Which AI Model Actually Gets Work Done?
Brendan introduces the AI Productivity Index (APEX), a new benchmark that measures how well AI models handle real work across law, finance, consulting, and medicine. The winner? GPT-5 takes the crown, with Grok 4 and Gemini 2.5 Flash close behind.

🌶️ Speaking of AI in actual industries, benchmarks are getting better at looking at AI in the real world versus an "arena." Most professionals have not used the most expensive models, even though those models are by far the best for their jobs. As more people pay for the best models, more people will want to pay.

We Are Not in an AI Bubble—We're at Risk of Missing an AI Revolution
Concerns about an AI bubble are overblown. The real risk isn't financial excess. It's regulatory and cultural barriers blocking the AI buildout.
I climbed up on my soapbox for this one and broke down why the AI comparison to the dot-com era is wrong, and why even if there is a bubble, that's actually a good thing for progress.
