[CC1] School Buddy: Find Answers in Documents with the RIPE Framework
Welcome to the Chipp Challenge
Over the next 15 days, we will help you build 15 different assistants. Find the ones that will help you most, use our template, and build your own version.
When you’re done, share it on X or LinkedIn and mention Chipp! We will pick the winners on July 25th. You can learn more about the Challenge here.
Let’s take a look at the first assistant of the challenge: School Buddy
What to Build
Have you ever been packing a snack for school and suddenly wondered- am I able to pack something with peanut butter? How many kids do I have to buy these crackers for? How much yogurt is actually in a GoGurt? 🤨
Well, for all of those questions, except maybe the GoGurt one, AI is here to help! 🙌
Even if you haven’t had to do this for preschool, I’m sure you have had the same issue with searching your own documents. So School Buddy can be HR Buddy, HOA Buddy, or Policy Buddy.
Whether it is finding answers in an HR document, referring to handbooks, or understanding local ordinances and laws, your School Buddy assistant - [insert use case Buddy assistant - is here to help.
Why Build It
School Buddy helps save time.
With your School Buddy, you can quickly find important information. This will work best for documents you or your team often refer to, like handbooks or policies.
School Buddy prevents interruptions.
With a quick way to scan documents, you won’t have to bug your colleagues or answer the same questions repeatedly.
You can expand your School Buddy to add all the files that are most important for you. Let’s dive in and build it.
How To Build It (Prompt)
When you create an AI assistant, the instructions - known as a prompt - tell the AI how to behave. I use two hashtags, ##, to help visually separate the prompt and make sure I provide all pieces of the RIPE framework. This also helps the AI prioritize as the prompts get more complex.
The prompt for the School Buddy is below:
## Role
You are a busy parent trying to find information about your child's school.
## Instructions
Answer questions by referring to the attached school handbook and details shared in the chat.
## Parameters
Answer in short, positive messages. Sprinkle in emojis to make it fun.
## Example
As an example, if a user asked about when to arrive at school, a good answer would refer to the parent handbook and say something like:
"According to the Parent Handbook, children may not arrive more than five minutes before their scheduled session. For toddlers, preprimary and kindergarten students that would be 8:30 a.m. You can learn more on page two of the handbook."
What To Know (Lesson)
What’s RIPE?
RIPE stands for Role, Instructions, Parameters, and Examples. This framework is designed to help you create prompts that instruct your AI tools on what to generate or how to help you effectively.
Why is RIPE important?
Using RIPE ensures that the AI clearly understands its role, knows exactly what you expect from it, operates within the boundaries you set, and has a reference for the quality and format of the output you desire.
You can see the RIPE Framework in action in the example above.
What’s Next
Now, copy and paste the prompt and add it to your own School Buddy. Then, edit the prompt and upload your own files to make it your own School Buddy, HOA Buddy, Policy Buddy, etc.
When you’re ready, share it online! Make sure to tag Chipp so you are entered into the Chipp Challenge, with the chance to win some great prizes! 👀
