# My Files: Your Document Library, Shared Across Your Assistants Upload a document once and every assistant you use can find it later, in any conversation. Share files with family or teammates through circles. --- When you upload a document in a chat, your assistant does more than read it once. It saves the document to **My Files**: your personal, permanent document library. In any later conversation, you can just refer to the document ("check my HOA rules", "what did my founder analysis say about vesting?") and the assistant will find it, read the relevant parts, and cite the file by name. No re-uploading. ## How it works 1. **Upload once.** Attach a document to any chat message while signed in. The original file is stored, its text is extracted, and a short summary is generated so your assistants know what it contains. 2. **Reference it any time.** In a new conversation, mention the document naturally. The assistant searches your library by name, summary, and content, then loads only the parts it needs, so a large library never slows down or crowds your conversations. 3. **Browse your library.** Open the menu in the top-right of any chat and choose **My Files**. You can search, filter, preview, download, rename, and delete documents, and see each document's processing status. Supported document types include PDF, Word, spreadsheets, CSV, Markdown, plain text, and images. Files up to 25MB are stored durably. ## One library across all your assistants If you use several assistants from the same builder (for example, a set of apps in one workspace or launched from one HQ home screen), they share your library. A document you upload in one assistant is readable by the others, labeled with where it came from, as long as you're signed in with the same email in each one. When an assistant uses a file you saved elsewhere, it will tell you which assistant it came from, so you always know the source. Builders can opt an individual app out of this sharing in the app's settings if an app should keep its files private to itself. ## Sharing files with other people: circles Circles let you share files with people you choose: your spouse, your family, a small team. Each person keeps their own account and their own assistants, and shared files travel across. 1. **Create a circle** from the Circles panel in the chat menu, and invite members by email. They get an email invitation and accept from any of their own Chipp assistants. 2. **Share a file** from My Files: open the share action on any document and pick a circle. Every other member gets an email letting them know what you shared and who shared it. 3. **They can just ask.** Members' assistants can now find and read the shared file in conversation, always attributed ("shared by Hunter in your Family circle"). Members can also browse and download circle files from the Circles panel. Only the person who shared a file (or the circle owner) can remove it from the circle. Leaving a circle removes your access to its files. ## Privacy notes - Your library is yours. Assistants can only read files belonging to your signed-in identity, plus files explicitly shared with you through a circle. - Anonymous (not signed-in) chats don't build a library: sign in to keep documents. - Deleting a file removes it from your library and from any circles it was shared into.
